about
Distilled and matured from the music of their previous outfit, ‘Rain’ by Meadow Meadow follows on from their two acclaimed EPs - 2020s self titled Meadow Meadow and 2021s Silhouettes. Sonically rich and layered with earthy guitars, pianos, brass and strings, ‘Rain’ is a masterclass in classic songwriting. Effortlessly gliding between tension and release, swelling sections to hushed vocal verses, the track’s hooky chorus is certain to make even the most rigid of heads nod along.
Speaking on the track, Peter from the band offers: “I was walking along the side of the Thames and could see that it was raining on one side of the river, but not on the side where I was standing. This idea of the city being cut in two halves really struck me and that's when the lyrics began to arrive. I thought about a relationship that was ending and how the city suddenly felt unknown to me.”
lyrics
Rain rolling across the Thames
The city's cut in two
And now we are too
A grey mountain of waves
Crashing over
Into the pines and
Rolling into forever
Now we look at the world together
I can see the lines
Trapped in a crowded space
Forever climbing high
This city is on its side
This city is on its side
And just like that, the night passed
We had to let the day break
I held us and kissed us
I had to forgive us
The day sobbed
The park laughed at us
I just stood and watched
As we became strangers
